There are a few clothing fundamentals that work good at most weddings:
- Wear a suit- A tailor-made pinstripe suit is a great idea. Get a pinstripe wedding suit and relax, as you can wear it to most weddings. Look at men wearing a pinstripe suit at any wedding and you will know why a suit is the right attire.
- Something traditional is a safe choice - Leave all your apparel experiments at home, whether you are the groom or the guest. Select a traditional men’s wedding suit to wear at the reception.
- Avoid under-dressing- A shirt and a tie would do, but it is good to wear a suit at a wedding.
- Avoid rentals- This should be the last resort. Without alteration, any rented apparel would lack finesse and fit.
- Don’t shed the jacket- It is a common (and unruly) sight to see men who are dressed in tuxedos remove the jacket. Etiquette says; wear the complete suit as long as the reception continues.
- Denim? A complete 'No'- Men love jeans, but they are best avoided at weddings; unless the theme is that of a cowboy wedding!
- Evening wear is for evenings only- Save your evening dress shirt and suit for the evening only. If a wedding reception begins at noon and goes on till late at night, it is best to dress in a tuxedo in the evening.
- A suitable tie is always good- At any wedding, the groom, best man and the groomsmen must wear neck-ties that gel well with their formal attire. They need not match, but should reflect some element of harmony in their formal suits.
